March 2024

  • Map Enhancement: Zoom for Airways and Waypoints
Enhancements to ForeFlight Dispatch’s map improve the visibility of airways while zoomed out. This enhancement provides users with a broader context of their flight route, allowing for better navigation and planning by displaying relevant details further out on the map.
  • Custom Content: Airport Category Labels
Administrators now have the capability to assign any airport an Airport Category, Aircraft Type, and include any relevant comments or notes within the Custom Content tab. This user-defined category allows users to choose from EASA-standard A, B, or C airport categories or input any two-character custom category. Users now have the flexibility to add these labels on a per-airport basis or import all the information from a CSV file, simplifying the management and organization of your airport data. To start adding these labels, simply navigate to Custom Content > Airport Categories on ForeFlight Web.
  • Better Custom Navlog Support in ForeFlight Mobile
ForeFlight Mobile now fully supports viewing a flight’s selected Custom Navlog, resolving an issue that caused the navlog to revert to a different format when edited or refreshed by the pilot. With this enhancement, pilots can easily access, edit, or refresh detailed flight information directly from their mobile devices using whichever Custom Navlog has been selected for their flight.
  • Military Flight Bag: Aircraft Drag Index
ForeFlight Dispatch now supports drag index adjustments for supported aircraft, starting with the C-130J. This feature enables users to specify a drag index number, allowing for precise adjustments to enroute performance based on equipment and configurations, optimizing flight planning. To set the aircraft’s continuous drag index, navigate to Aircraft > Drag Index and enter a value. To access and edit the Drag Index for a specific flight, go to Dispatch > Flight > Fuel > Drag Index Value. Here, you can change the default index to another value if necessary. Changes made to the Drag Index for a specific flight will not carry over to subsequent flights.

  • Auto Fuel Advsior
Streamline your fuel optimization process with Auto Fuel Advisor. Accessible via the Auto Dispatch tab, then Tankering Opportunities, this feature consolidates all potential fuel-saving opportunities into one view. Simply review suggested changes on the right side of the screen and choose to apply or dismiss them as needed. (If contract fuel rates are indicated on your account, Auto Fuel Advisor will incorporate those prices into its calculations automatically.)
  • API Update Mode in Settings
A new API setting offers you greater control regarding updates within ForeFlight Dispatch. The API Update Mode allows you to specify the timing for the API to be permitted to make changes, providing clarity and control over when updates from the API are permitted. You can access these settings by navigating to Settings > Planning Settings > Scheduling Integration > API update mode. There are four options available: Let ForeFlight Dispatch decide, Block after filing, Block after dispatch changes, and Block after release. These new options allow you to manage when the API stops accepting flight updates into Dispatch, catering to your specific scheduling needs and preferences.
  • Pet Option in Weight & Balance
Pets no longer need to be categorized as Cargo Weight with a new option added to Weight & Balance within a flight. This new addition is automatically displayed in the ‘Passengers’ drop down menu under the W&B tab in Dispatch.
  • Contingency Planning: Rename RCF to Reclear if not EASA
When planning reserve fuel in Dispatch, users will now notice that the “Contingency Policy” drop-down menu shows "Reclear" as an option, instead of “RCF”. This change reflects a more accurate label for non-EASA users.
  • Runway Analysis Point Calculator
Easily validate your Runway Analysis reports with our new Runway Analysis Point Calculator. Start here, then manually input crucial data such as weight, runway length, temperature, surface condition, and other pertinent variables. Utilizing ForeFlight's RWA engine, the tool then calculates the performance information. Users can then perform the same calculation using Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM) or manufacturer guidelines, and compare the results side by side. This streamlined process allows users to easily verify, accept, and complete their validation reports, satisfying EASA requirements. Additionally, the tool enables users to export the data as a CSV file for later analysis or documentation purposes.

  • Route Constraint: Avoid Custom Shape
Direct ForeFlight's Recommended Route to avoid a custom-defined region when avoiding whole countries or FIRs isn't enough. Select the "Avoid Custom Shape" option in the Route Constraints drop-down menu on the Route Builder page, then right-click on the map in at least three locations to place markers defining the custom shape. Continue right-clicking to extend the shape with additional corners. If you make a mistake or wish to start over, click the eraser button in the lower-left corner of the map to clear all markers. Optionally specify a buffer in nautical miles around the custom shape to ensure your route avoids it by a suitable margin.
If you want to save a given shape so you can apply it to other flight plans, copy the text in the WKT String field (formatted as "POLYGON((long lat, long lat, long lat))" with a minimum of three long/lat pairs) and paste it into the same field on other flight plans to duplicate the shape.

  • People Manager
You can now add crew members to flights even when they’re not part of your ForeFlight account, such as contract workers or cabin attendants. When you add a person outside your organization to a flight, ForeFlight will email them the flight information, briefing package, and any documents attached to the flight, as well as email updates when the flight details change. Admins can visit Settings > People Manager to start adding crew members.
  • Aircraft Dry Operating Cost
Specify an aircraft’s Dry Operating Cost per Hour so ForeFlight’s routing engine can balance this cost against the fuel burned during the climb and recommend a more cost-effective altitude for each flight. The new field will be accessible in the Fuel section of an aircraft’s profile, and will be auto-filled based on manufacturer data for any aircraft that ForeFlight provides pre-built Weight & Balance templates for. Dry Operating Cost only supports USD.
  • Route Builder: Via Waypoint Coordinate Support
Guide ForeFlight’s optimized route generation even more flexibly with support for routing via latitude/longitude coordinates in Route Builder. Enter coordinates in the Via Waypoint Route Constraint using decimal degrees notation and ForeFlight will attempt to generate a fileable route that includes the specified coordinates.
  • W&B: Standard Weight Curtailment
Curtail your Weight & Balance envelope to account for variations in passenger weight when using standard weights. The new option will be available in the W&B tab just under the W&B Profile selector. Additionally, the W&B Envelope graph will show the curtailed limits as a dotted line.
  • Graphical NOTAMs Map Layer
You can now view global Graphical NOTAMs on the map in ForeFlight Web and Dispatch, just as you can on ForeFlight Mobile. Enable the NOTAMs layer from the Layer Selector and click on NOTAMs to view their details

  • Route Rubberbanding
Manually adjust your route line simply by clicking and dragging it in Dispatch’s route map. Click and drag existing waypoints in your route to substitute them with other waypoints, or click and drag between waypoints to insert a new one. After releasing the line a popup displaying a list of nearby airports, waypoints, and more allows you to select the new route element.
  • Route Constraint: Avoid Country
Direct ForeFlight's Recommended Route to avoid certain countries as it generates an optimized route for your flight. As with all other route constraints, you can access Avoid Country near the top of the Route Builder page. Dispatch's Flights List supports searching by recall number, allowing you to enter a particular recall number in the Search field to find the associated flight plan.
  • New Operational Rule Types
Control the details of flight plans across your account with new Operational Rule types available in Settings > Operational Rules.
       • Taxi Fuel - Set a default taxi fuel based on a flight’s aircraft, type, or departure airport.
       • FBO - Set a default FBO for a particular destination airport. This rule requires you to first select a destination airport to determine which FBOs are available, after which you can select one and/or define additional conditions based on aircraft, type, or departure airport.
       • Avoid Country - The Operational Rule equivalent of the new Route Constraint, allowing you to automatically apply the constraint based on a flight’s departure or destination airport, aircraft, or type. You can also select countries to avoid without specifying any rule parameters to apply the Avoid Country constraint to all flights planned across your account.
  • Improved Operational Rule Filters & Search
Find operational rules you’ve added more easily with three new options at the top of the Rules list, in addition to the existing “Filter by Rule Type” dropdown:
       • Filter by Condition Type - filter the Rules list to only those with matching conditions types, such as aircraft type, tail number, departure or destination airports, and more.
       • Filter by Condition Value - filter the Rules list based on the specific condition value, such as a specific airport, aircraft type, etc.
       • Free Search - filter the Rules list based on matching keywords from any part of the rule. Use Free Search in conjunction with other filters the Free Search to further refine the possible keyword matches.
