AUSTIN, TEXAS — July 14, 2026 — Jeppesen ForeFlight today announced the launch of ClearNOTAMs, a new feature in ForeFlight that uses artificial intelligence to translate dense, heavily-coded NOTAMs into clear, plain-language summaries, helping pilots grasp critical flight information faster and with greater confidence.
Available following AirVenture Oshkosh 2026 as a complimentary trial for all individual ForeFlight customers on mobile and web, ClearNOTAMs addresses one of aviation's longest-standing challenges: making NOTAMs easier to read and retain.
NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen) contain essential information that can affect a flight’s safety and execution, but their highly-abbreviated format makes them difficult to quickly interpret. Plus, truly critical notices may be intermixed at random with less important ones, requiring a pilot to spend significant time and energy sifting through the list to find the ones that really matter for their flight.
ClearNOTAMs helps resolve these issues by providing pilots with a plain English translation of every NOTAM that conveys each one’s real operational impact, without altering the underlying meaning or fully replacing the original.
"Every pilot across the globe has experienced the challenge of sorting through pages of NOTAMs before a flight," said Cole Crawford, Director of Product at Jeppesen ForeFlight "ClearNOTAMs helps pilots spend less time deciphering information and more time understanding it. By transforming complex NOTAM language into clear, concise summaries, we're making one of the most important parts of flight planning more accessible and actionable."
AI-Powered NOTAM Intelligence
ClearNOTAMs leverages a set of robust AI models trained to interpret and summarize NOTAM terminology, with extensive automated cross checks for accuracy built in to maximize the quality of every translation. The outcome is a plain English summary that becomes the primary text for each NOTAM, while the original coded version may be viewed alongside the translation with just a tap, making it easy for pilots to verify any translation’s accuracy and view the authoritative original at any time.
The summaries are integrated throughout the ForeFlight experience where NOTAMs are shown, including airport information pages, the Graphical NOTAMs map layer, flight plans, and ForeFlight’s graphical preflight briefing, ensuring pilots can access clearer information at every stage of their flight planning workflow.
Designed for Every Flight
Because familiarizing oneself with all applicable NOTAMs is a requirement for every flight and for every pilot, ClearNOTAMss delivers value across the aviation community—from student pilots and recreational flyers to professional flight crews. Whether planning a local training flight or an international flight plan, pilots can more quickly identify runway closures, equipment outages, airspace restrictions, and other operationally significant information.
During early access testing of ClearNOTAMs, pilots reported feeling less daunted by the prospect of reviewing NOTAMs before a flight, spending significantly less time doing so, and feeling more confident in their understanding of the information presented and its relevance to their flight.
Additional User Interface Enhancements
In conjunction with the release of ClearNOTAMs, ForeFlight’s user interface for viewing NOTAMs also received a set of major improvements that make it faster and easier to find relevant NOTAMs across the app.
A set of customizable filters allows pilots to filter NOTAMs by categories (such as Airport, Runway, Airspace, Obstacle, etc.), the NOTAM’s issuing body (local or regional), and the NOTAM’s activation time, all of which make it incredibly easy to narrow the full list down to a much smaller set of NOTAMs based on each pilots’ own criteria. New Sort options also support sorting by category, how recently a NOTAM was last updated, and each NOTAM’s effective time in either ascending or descending order.
Additionally, users can now “pin” specific NOTAMs to the top of the list with a single tap, allowing them to ensure that the most critical NOTAMs they find are always prioritized at the top for easy access. Conversely, users can “collapse” less relevant NOTAMs to a single line by double-tapping on them, making them less prominent in the list without completely hiding them.
Availability
ClearNOTAMs will be available to all individual ForeFlight subscription plans following AirVenture as a complimentary three-month trial. Following the trial period, the feature will be available only with ForeFlight’s Premium plan for individuals, Business Performance for flight departments, and MFB Performance and MFB One for military and government customers. The other user interface enhancements to NOTAMs such as filtering, sorting, pinning, and collapsing will be available with all ForeFlight subscription plans.
