ForeFlight’s High Resolution Basemap depicts ground features and cultural elements in much greater detail for improved inflight reference. The default basemap provides a basic depiction of major roads and urban areas, while the High Resolution Basemap dramatically increases the level of detail, exposing minor roads and individual railway lines, increasing the resolution of coastlines and urban areas, and highlighting national parks and forests in green. The High Resolution Basemap also adds terrain peak markers with altitudes so you can easily identify the highest points in an area. You can disable these within Terrain settings in the Map Settings menu.
ForeFlight’s Takeoff & Landing Performance feature allows you to specify a safety distance factor to produce more conservative runway performance calculations in response to runway conditions or other factors. Takeoff & Landing Performance is included in ForeFlight Performance plans and supports many piston and single-engine turboprop aircraft types.
ForeFlight displays FBO fees from AOPA’s Airport Directory to help you make more informed flight planning decisions. Access an FBO’s fees from the FBO detail view by tapping the Fees tab. For each fee ForeFlight shows the type of fee and any notes on the left and the cost on the right. Fees that vary by aircraft type or other factors show a range of costs that you can tap into to see the full breakdown.
ForeFlight Military Flight Bag displays Aerial Refueling Tracks for both training and operational use around the world, helping military pilots plan and conduct flights that include aerial refueling.
3D Review is a flight planning and debriefing capability that allows you to review planned and recorded flights with immersive 3D terrain and aerial imagery. Prepare for an upcoming flight by familiarizing yourself with landmarks and ground features along your planned route, and replay a past flight with pitch and bank data (if your Track Log is recorded with an AHRS capable device) to evaluate your maneuvers. 3D Review is available in ForeFlight Performance plans.
Take notes on the fly and mark up charts using ForeFlight’s Map Annotations feature.
Track Log Review in ForeFlight is an integrated flight debriefing tool that allows you to simultaneously view and compare multiple types of data throughout the flight, making it easy to assess maneuvers and other details.
Takeoff and Landing Performance is a powerful flight planning capability that provides safety-enhancing runway performance calculations returned in seconds. Seamlessly integrated into ForeFlight’s flight planning workflow, Takeoff and Landing Performance incorporates aircraft performance and weather data to calculate important flight metrics and ensure they’re within the aircraft’s and runway’s limits. Takeoff and Landing Performance is included at no additional charge in ForeFlight’s Performance Plus plan.
This video provides a short tour of ForeFlight's organization and navigation, touching on each of the 8 "app views" and the specialized purposes that each one serves.
ForeFlight provides General Aviation Forecasts, or GAFOR, in an interactive map layer to help pilots flying in Europe better assess upcoming weather and prepare for their flights. GAFOR is included in all European ForeFlight subscriptions.
European pilots can improve their planning and flying experience with flexible chart options in ForeFlight, including both IFR and VFR charts that pack all the essentials you need into one integrated app. European subscriptions include Jeppesen VFR and IFR data built into ForeFlight’s map, and charts and AIPs for supported countries via EUROCONTROL, giving you a solid foundation for any type of flying. Additionally, you can select optional VFR chart and AIP add-ons as part of your subscription to enhance your VFR flying with your preferred chart providers.
The first video in our Getting Started series for European subscribers shows you how to purchase a ForeFlight subscription with flexible chart and data options, and how to download the app from the App Store and sign in.
To learn how you can link an existing Jeppesen account to download the charts in ForeFlight, watch this video: https://foreflight.com/support/video-library/watch/?v=link-an-existing-jeppesen-subscription
The last video in our Getting Started series for European subscribers shows how to plan a route on the Maps view, send it to Flights to retrieve a weather briefing and printable Navlog, and file the flight plan with EUROCONTROL.
IMPORTANT: Remember that ForeFlight uses your aircraft's ICAO filing codes when checking for EUROCONTROL validation, so if you keep getting INVALID routes, check to make sure you entered the right ICAO codes for your aircraft.
ForeFlight’s Route Advisor provides fast autorouting in Europe for both IFR and VFR flights, helping pilots of any kind find the best route for their flight. Powered by a state-of-the-art cloud-based routing engine, Route Advisor generates optimized and EUROCONTROL-validated IFR, YFR, and ZFR routes in seconds, and also returns VFR route suggestions that comply with standard AIP guidelines. And with support for VFR and IFR flight plan filing throughout Europe, ForeFlight is the one-stop-shop for integrated planning, filing, and flying.
